Pulse String Ensemble

The PULSE String Ensemble is an exciting opportunity for talented instrumentalists to rehearse and perform as part of a high-quality ensemble and work with expert tutors on challenging and exciting repertoire.

The ensemble is open to students in Years 4 to 12, currently enrolled at a NSW public school, who play one of the following instruments:

  • violin
  • viola
  • cello
  • double bass.

The operation of this program is contingent on advice provided by the NSW Department of Education in consultation with NSW Health. All activities will adhere to the DoE COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions.


Participants in the program will participate in 3 full-day workshops, held at Penrith High School, followed by a performance at the Arts Alive & PULSE Ensembles Concert at Riverside Theatres Parramatta on Monday 2 August 2021.

The workshop dates are:

·        Friday 18 June (Term 2 Week 9)
         9:30 am to 2:30 pm – Penrith High School

·        Friday 16 July (Term 3 Week 1)
         9:30 am to 2:30 pm – Penrith High School

·        Friday 30 July (Term 3 Week 3)
         9:30am to 2:30 pm – Penrith High School

·        Monday 2 August (Term 3 Week 4)
         1 pm to 9:30pm (rehearsal / performance)
         Riverside Theatre Parramatta.

Students will need to commit to all 3 workshops and the performance date to participate in the 2021 program. Exceptions may be made by the ensemble coordinator for students who have examinations which fall on the day of a workshop.

How to apply

Interested students are invited to submit an application by completing the PULSE String Ensemble application form.

Applications close Friday 11 June 2021
(Term 2 Week 8).


The participation fee for 2021 is $44 per student (GST inclusive).

This will be payable via The Arts Unit payment portal on acceptance into the ensemble.

This cost includes a t-shirt which will be worn for the performance at Riverside Theatre.

Students are encouraged to approach their school for financial assistance if required.
